This week hasn't been a great one. I'm hoping that my Monday morning weigh-in is only moderately disappointing.
The last 2 days in review:
Friday
Went down to Toronto to visit Carlos and Andrea -- university friends -- and watch the Blue Jays vs. the Yankees at the Rogers Centre. I knew it would be a tough day food wise. I should have made a plan for eating so I didn't have to eat food that was really bad for me. It's pretty tough when you're both visiting friends AND going to a sporting event.
Pros:
-had a relatively decent breakfast of a piece of homemade bread
-Roy Halliday pitched a 1-hit shutout against the Yankees. Great game!
-didn't eat any junk food
-5km run with Scooter -- felt great!
-had some salad for lunch to help quench my hunger cravings
Cons:
-not only did I have that salad, but 2 pieces of leftover pizza. Not so healthy now, are you, salad?
-ate what can only be described as a cheese-fest of chimichanga, some plain nacho chips and a couple of beers. Not on the diet agenda!
-croissant on the way home to try and keep myself awake
What lesson can I take from today? Making a plan for a day that will be hard on a diet might help me to eat the right stuff. I'll try that next time.
Saturday
Here's a morning problem for you: nothing goes better with a cup of decaf coffee than one of those toll house cookies from Thursday. Man are they good! Breakfast was a disaster -- coffee, cookie and a piece of pizza. Won't be doing that again.
One problem this morning was that I got in a rush when my wife found out there was a half off sale on men's pants at Sears, but only until 11am, and it was 10:00 at that point. Stuffed my face with easy, crappy food to save money on pants I probably won't fit into soon if I keep eating like this!
Next was dinner. My wife's youngest sister just got a job at Boston Pizza, so we went to visit her there. That pizza goes down too easy -- they must put some kind of hunger-exacerbating herb on top so you don't feel full! My wife had to look at me and say: "You know, we COULD take some of that home. You don't have to eat the whole thing!"
Yep, it was that kind of day. With a couple of glasses of wine to boot, I wasn't doing myself any calorie favours.
Today's a new day (Sunday). We're going to the in-laws for dinner, which always means wonderful, healthy food, and an unending supply of red wine. So two things to remember for tonight:
1. No more than 2 glasses of red wine.
2. Don't reach for that second helping. (It's not worth it -- only makes your stomach rumble and your butt mumble!)
Signed up for the Toronto Island 5km run today. I've got a buddy running with me, and I'm hoping to do a competitive run with him once a month. Hockey season starts now, and I'm joining a squash league once a week. So I've gotten back to exercising 3-4 times a week -- it's the food I have to master.
Also, school starts again in earnest on Tuesday. I can use that as a new beginning!
Blog you later!

Hi Kevin,
ReplyDeleteNoticed that you have recently started a blog with a very close purpose and name to the one I started just yesterday. I too have decided to embark on a journey to lose 40 pounds in 40 weeks. I too am a teacher and also got the idea to write as I too write and saw Julie and Julia. I guess great minds think alike! I kind of started the 1st of September but was very busy with class room and getting my kids, young adults, settled in the grad school apartments. My friend Tom went on to see my creation and found yours so I may be the first to post to your blog. Perhaps you will visit mine and we can start a little friendly competition. Losing weight has become harder for me with age but it does happen with exercise. I live in Pennsylvania and teach first grade. Now that you know a little about me feel free to check out my blog. Best of luck to you. I will return to write another day. Keep your thoughts positive. You will persevere!
Thanks for the comment, Lulu! I like your blog -- I'm sure you're going to do well. It's great to have some moral support in this endeavour -- I'll be sure to comment on yours as you go along as well.
ReplyDeleteGo team!
